Kohenet West is a multi-year training and immersion in Hebrew priestessing, a leadership-cultivation experience and an invitation into the movement and the sisterhood that is Kohenet. Kohenet West emerges from the deep well of Kohenet Hebrew Priestess Institute, founded in 2005 by Rabbi Jill Hammer and Taya Shere. After almost a decade of training and ordaining women as Kohanot ~ Hebrew Priestesses ~ and feeling the deep impact of reclaiming and innovating embodied, earth-honoring models of Jewish women’s spiritual leadership in celebration of the sacred feminine, Kohenet was called ~ by the Goddess and by many of you ~ to come west. We began our first west coast training in January 2015 at Ananda Meditation Retreat in Nevada City, CA. Our current west cohort of 18 priestesses-in-training is a strong circle of ritualists, visionary artists, activists, teachers and healers.
Kohenet West aligns with the vision, content, curriculum and structures of the Kohenet Training Program ~ see Training and Curriculum pages for details ~ and includes additional elements crafted for and in response to the unique gifts and needs of West Coast kohanot-in-training. Kohenet West is guided by Rav Kohenet Taya Shere in collaboration with Rav Kohanot Jill Hammer, Shoshana Jedwab and guest teachers. We are blessed to be supported by an amazing circle of Hebrew Priestesses based in the Bay Area and those newly relocating to the Bay Area drawn in part by the call of Kohenet West community. Our weeks together are an immersion into Kohenet culture and a deep experience of personal and communal transformation, ritual, learning and leadership development.
The next Kohenet West beginning training meets August 2016 and Winter 2017, Summer 2017 and Winter 2018. . In accordance with the Kohenet training model, we gather for week-long intensives each winter and summer, with options for active online community, course-work, and conference calls. Kohenet West participants are encouraged to take part in Kohenet West programming on holydays including our Shavuot, High Holidays, etc.
The Kohenet West Training is held at Ananda Meditation Retreat is a sweet devotional sanctuary on 72 acres in the Sierra foothills near the Yuba River. For more info on Ananda Meditation Retreat visit www.meditationretreat.org.
